A designer reaches out within one business day to begin the conversation and learn more about your project goals. During your initial phone call with a landscape designer, you discuss what you would like to improve on your property and how you plan to use the space now and in the future. You will also talk about general budget expectations and project scope so the designer can recommend the right next steps. If the project sounds like a good fit, your on-site visit will be scheduled, typically within about one week.

Your designer meets you at your property for a 30–45 minute visit to review the space and make initial recommendations. This meeting helps clarify ideas, identify potential challenges, and determine the best direction for the design. For larger projects, it helps to have a survey or plot plan available, along with any inspiration photos you may have collected. Having all decision makers present helps move the project forward efficiently.

For larger projects, especially those involving hardscaping or pools, a custom design brings the full vision of your space together. A design proposal is sent shortly after your visit and is typically around $1,200 depending on project scope. Once approved, your designer creates the plan and prepares a presentation where you review the layout and budget for each portion of the project. Most plans are presented in 2D, with 3D renderings available for an additional investment. Up to two rounds of revisions are included so the final design reflects how you want the space to look and function. During this stage, you will also review options for maintaining your landscape so it stays healthy and looking its best after installation.

When the design and pricing meet your expectations, you meet with your designer to finalize the project and sign the agreement. The agreement outlines the full project price and scope of work. A deposit, typically 25-50 percent depending on project size, secures your place on the schedule and allows materials to be ordered.

If permits are required, such as for pools, approval timelines may take six weeks or longer depending on your town. For projects that do not require permits, work often begins within two to four weeks depending on the scope, weather, and time of year. Once construction begins, the operations manager becomes your main point of contact while the designer stays closely involved throughout the project. Project payments are made according to the agreement schedule. You will also notice the team’s commitment to The Greenleaf Peace of Mind Promise. Work areas are kept organized and maintained throughout the project, with materials staged carefully and the site cleaned regularly so the space never feels chaotic.

When your project is complete, the team walks through the finished space with you to review the work and confirm everything meets your expectations. This is also when the final project payment is due. During the walkthrough, you will be provided a maintenance proposal to properly care for your landscape, and warranty coverage is reviewed. Plants carry a 90 day warranty during the growing season, which can be extended to one year when paired with a qualified maintenance plan signed within 30 days of project completion.

About 60 days after installation, a Greenleaf team member returns to review your property and confirm everything is thriving. This visit allows the team to check plant health and answer any questions about maintaining your landscape long term.
